Soft Tissue injuries- Healing Times and What to Expect

Hello everyone!

Thanks for taking the time for this quick read.

I find it’s always helpful to have as much information about what is going on in our bodies as possible. This empowers us to help them heal safely and efficiently.

Depending on the stage of tissue healing, your Physical Therapist will have specific movements and exercises to help your tissues heal.

After an injury, the timeline for soft tissue healing depends on the individual, extent of the injury, age and overall health status. There are various stages of soft tissue healing as the tissue moves from injured to healed.

The following tissue healing phases occur from injury to fully healed tissue:

Acute Phase of tissue healing: Day 1-7

Subacute Phase: Day 3 – < 3 weeks

Remodelling Phase: 1-6 weeks

Functional Phase: 2 weeks – 2 months

Return to Competition Phase: 3 weeks – 6 months

Have a wonderful week!
